Microwaves are unique in our trade because they contain a high-voltage capacitor capable of storing a lethal charge for days after the unit is unplugged. We mention this not to scare you but to explain why microwave DIY is genuinely dangerous and why every M&MG technician carries a properly insulated discharge tool and a high-voltage meter rated for 5,000 volts.
The most common microwave failure is 'runs but no heat,' which almost always points to a failed magnetron, a shorted high-voltage diode, or a weak high-voltage capacitor. The magnetron is the cylindrical aluminum tube that generates the cooking energy; it has a finite life of roughly 2,000 hours and is more affected by line voltage fluctuations than any other part. We carry replacement magnetrons for the over-the-range models we see most often: Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Maytag and Bosch.
Sparking or arcing inside the cavity is usually caused by a worn waveguide cover (the thin mica panel on the right interior wall) that has burned through after years of food splatter. A new $8 cover stops the arcing immediately and prevents the magnetron itself from being damaged. If the magnetron has already taken the hit, both parts need to be replaced together. We always inspect the waveguide on every service call regardless of the original complaint.
Over-the-range microwave installation and removal is a two-person job that we are equipped to do without damaging your cabinets. The unit hangs from a wall mounting plate and pivots down onto a top-mounted bolt; a single technician trying to do this alone almost always scratches the cabinet face or drops the unit. Built-in microwave-oven combinations require a similar careful approach because the trim kit has to be removed without scratching the stainless surround.
Drawer microwaves from Sharp and KitchenAid are popular in Broward County island installations. The drawer mechanism is the most failure-prone component on these units and we stock the drawer motor and lock assemblies for both brands. Call (954) 245-6863 for same-day microwave repair.
We dispatch to every major city in Broward County including Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach, Hollywood, Pompano Beach, Coral Springs, Plantation, Sunrise, Davie and more.
