Common Symptoms

When to call us

If you recognize any of these warning signs, stop using the appliance and call our dispatcher. Continuing to run a failing unit usually turns a small repair into an expensive one.

  • Oven heats too slowly or never reaches set temperature
  • Broiler works but bake element does not (or vice versa)
  • F-series error code on the display (F1, F2, F3, F30)
  • Door will not unlock after self-clean cycle
  • Burning or electrical smell during preheat
  • Convection fan rattles or stops spinning
  • Touch panel unresponsive or buttons sticking

Most oven failures fall into one of three buckets: a burned-out heating element, a failed temperature sensor, or a fried control board. The good news is that all three are repairable on the first visit when you call a properly equipped technician. The bad news is that DIY attempts on built-in wall ovens often end with broken bake elements, stripped terminal screws, or a control board that gets fried by mishandled live wiring. We don't say that to sell you something — we say it because we replace those parts every week.

An electric oven that won't heat to temperature usually has a bake element that has burned open at one of the legs. A close visual inspection from inside the cavity will normally reveal a blistered or split spot where the failure occurred. We carry OEM-grade bake and broil elements for GE, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Maytag, LG and Samsung electric ovens, and the replacement is generally a 30-minute job once the oven is opened. Gas ovens behave differently: a slow preheat almost always means the igniter has weakened and is no longer drawing enough current to open the gas safety valve. Replacing the igniter restores normal preheat times instantly.

Temperature accuracy is its own diagnostic category. Customers often tell us 'the oven runs 50 degrees cold.' Sometimes that is calibration drift, which we correct through the service menu. More often it is a temperature sensor (RTD probe) that has lost its calibration as the platinum element ages. We test the probe at room temperature, swap it if it reads out of spec, and re-verify with a thermocouple in the cavity. A properly calibrated oven should hold within ten degrees of set point across the entire 200°F–500°F range.

Self-clean cycle damage is a special kind of pain. The high heat used during self-clean (often 900°F) routinely takes out door-lock motors, thermal fuses, and even main control boards on older Frigidaire, GE and KitchenAid models. We strongly recommend our customers avoid the self-clean feature entirely and instead use a baking-soda paste and a manual wipe-down. If your oven is stuck in a locked or 'cool down' state after a self-clean cycle, do not unplug it forcefully — call us first so we can diagnose the door-lock motor and avoid additional damage to the harness.

We service freestanding ranges with integrated ovens, slide-in ranges, single wall ovens, double wall ovens, combination wall-oven/microwave units, steam ovens and speed ovens. Brands we work on daily include Whirlpool, GE, KitchenAid, Maytag, Frigidaire, LG, Samsung, Bosch, Thermador, Viking, Wolf, Miele, Jenn-Air and Dacor. Call (954) 245-6863 for same-day oven repair.
