Common Symptoms
When to call us
If you recognize any of these warning signs, stop using the appliance and call our dispatcher. Continuing to run a failing unit usually turns a small repair into an expensive one.
- Freezer not maintaining 0°F or below
- Ice cream soft or food starting to thaw
- Frost buildup on the back wall or door seal
- Compressor runs constantly or won't start
- Loud humming, clicking, or buzzing
- Water pooling under the freezer or on shelves
- Door gasket no longer seals properly

Freezers are mechanically simpler than refrigerators, but the failure modes are equally serious because food spoilage is on a tight timer. The fastest, cheapest fix we routinely make is a failed start relay or overload protector on the compressor. The compressor itself hums for a moment, clicks off, and never starts cooling — but the compressor is fine. A $35 start relay restores normal operation in 15 minutes. If we hear the symptom on the phone we will usually quote a probability before we leave the shop.
Frost on the back wall or top of a chest freezer points to a defective door gasket or a worn lid hinge that no longer pulls the lid all the way down. Humid Broward County air leaks past the gasket, condenses on the cold coils, and freezes. A new gasket is inexpensive and restores efficiency immediately. For upright freezers, frost on a single rear wall almost always means the defrost heater or defrost thermostat has failed and ice is building up on the evaporator coil behind that wall.
Garage freezers in South Florida present an unusual challenge: the ambient temperature regularly exceeds 95°F, which is above the design envelope of many standard freezers. If your garage freezer struggles every summer and recovers every winter, the issue may not be a broken part — it may be that the appliance needs a 'garage kit' (a small heater that tricks the thermostat into running the compressor in hot conditions) or simply a replacement model rated for high ambient operation. We will tell you the truth.
Built-in column freezers from Sub-Zero, Thermador, Miele and Viking are a category we handle every week. These units are expensive to replace ($8,000–$15,000) and worth repairing in almost every scenario short of catastrophic compressor failure. We carry the OEM-spec evaporator fans, thermistors, control boards and gasket profiles for these brands, and we have working relationships with the manufacturers' parts distributors for the rare items we don't stock.
If your freezer is failing right now, call (954) 245-6863. While we are en route, move the most valuable food to a cooler with ice, and keep the freezer door closed — a full, closed freezer holds temperature for 48 hours without power.
We dispatch to every major city in Broward County including Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach, Hollywood, Pompano Beach, Coral Springs, Plantation, Sunrise, Davie and more.
